A Brief Intro to Fusion Welding

McElroy Fusion Machine Parts McElroy Parts

If you are on the McElroy Parts website, you already have a clear understanding of the welding process for pipe fusion. Let's explain the procedure a bit more if you've only just begun to delve into this, to get a clearer picture of how the McElroy machines work.

For welding processes that use melting as part of the mixture of materials with related melting points and composition, fusion welding can be thought of as the umbrella or general term. Heat fusion joining is also a broad umbrella word for pipes and pipe fittings that includes various processes and techniques such as electrofusion, butt fusion, the fusion of sockets, and so on.

There are several different techniques, each with unique applications, for pipe fusion welding. Two plastic parts (pipes/fitting) are normally welded or joined using heat. Heating and welding times will differ based on the type of material used, which means that a PE pipe will have a distinct heating time versus HDPE. Pipe size is also a consideration. The application range is comprehensive, from small single home plastic pipes to transnational pipe networks.
